Parenting and The Enneagram: Understanding Ourselves and Our Children
The Enneagram is a personality typology system that is both psychological and spiritual, and that gives insight into 9 dominant patterns of personalities.
We all have three centers of intelligence: head center for thinking, heart center for feeling, and body center for instincts. And we all lead from one particular center of intelligence that we have overdeveloped when we were young.
Studying and practicing with the Enneagram provides a path to alleviate suffering, dissolve automatic patterns of our personality structure, invite internal balance, and awaken to our true nature. We integrate Enneagram and yoga practice to invite sensing into our felt experience of all three centers of intelligence for awakening.
By understanding our children as the unique little humans that they are, we are better able to attune to their specific needs, support their gifts, and walk with them through their difficulties with compassion and skill.
Carol Ann is trained through International Enneagram Association schools, and is a 200-hour certified Yoga instructor. She brings her passion for compassionate self-awareness into every classroom, virtual or in-person.
Next gathering of hearts starts January 2024. This will be an in-person class in Salida, Colorado.
Tuesdays: January 9, 16, 23
In this 3-series course, each class will cover one Center of Intelligence: Body, Heart, and Head. We will engage in interactive dialogue about the strengths and growth edges for parenting from our personality, and how to bring more awareness and intention into interactions with our kids. We will also learn about the messages that all children (and adults!) benefit from during their development.
I can't wait to dive in with you!
The Enneagram Institute is the OG test, called the RHETI - the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator. It is 144 questions and takes about 30 minutes to complete. Cost is $12 and you will receive a multi-page report after you complete the test.
There are also a handful of excellent free tests out in the wild. One of my favorites is from the folks at the Art of Growth.
Yes you can find your Enneagram type from a test, though often the best way is to read about different types, and enjoy the process of self-discovery. Below are some of my favorite Enneagram books for type exploration and a deeper dive into the 9 types:
The Wisdom of the Enneagram - Riso & Hudson
The Essential Enneagram - David Daniels
